Hep-Art Medical Devices B.V. is a small spin off company of the Academic Medical Center at Amsterdam. The company has developed a robust bio-artificial liver system, the AMC-BAL. This system appeared safe during a first clinical phase 1 study with Acute Liver Failure patients using porcine liver cells.

To comply with the EU standards, we are currently developing several functional first-grade human liver cell lines. Please download here the results on our new immortalised human fetal liver cell line cBAL 111.

We are currently analyzing immortalised human liver cell lines for increased survival time using experimental animals suffering from acute liver failure.
